Position Objectives:

Patrols the city and responds to calls for police assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs routine police and traffic patrol;
Performs various criminal investigations, including accidents, domestic violence, and narcotics issues;
Assists in crime prevention and suspect apprehension;
Interviews witnesses, victims, and suspects;
Serves warrants;
Makes arrests on felonies, and other warrant charges;
Transports prisoners to county jail;
Responds to various alarms;
Assists various city service agencies as needed, including fire department, EMS, human services, and child protective services;
Prepares reports;
Interacts with and serves as a public servant to the citizens of the community, including discussing community and safety regulations;
Assists with and performs active follow-up on cases, including DWI, juveniles, drugs, accidents, and various other cases; and
Provides court testimony as needed;
Other duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a non-supervisory position.

KNOWLEDGE OF

Laws and ordinances of city and state; basic first aid; operation of firearms; criminal justice system; civil law; code of criminal procedures; standard office practices and procedures; computers; basic bookkeeping procedures; and department policies and procedures.

SKILL/ABILITY TO

Operate police vehicle at all speeds in a safe manner; operate police equipment; read manuals and interpret policies and procedures; write letters, memos, and instructions; perform basic mathematical calculations; analyze data; reason, and interpret policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, co-workers, and the general public.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Basic Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).

The noise level in the work environment varies significantly from one situation to the next. The employee may occasionally be called upon to perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

21 Years of Age or older;

Valid Texas Drivers License;
Must Pass Oral Interview board;

Must Pass Physical Agility Test and be able to complete the following:
          1) 1-mile run – 12 min. 4 seconds
          2) 300-meter sprint – 75 seconds
          3) Bench Press – 135 lbs. or 67% of applicants body weight.
          4) Vertical Jump – 15.5 inches
Must Pass Firearm Qualifications Course with a Minimum of 80%;
Submit Completed Application and Background Personal History Statement
           If not exempt, must pass physical, psychological, and drug screen testing

Desirable Training and Experience:

High school graduation or its equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
